Bowes Museum, in Barnard Castle,is a 'must see'. He was related to the Queen Mother (Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon) and married a french woman. They built a beautiful french chateau to house their collection. Do not miss the clockwork swan which they operate each day at about 2pm. The cafe is run by a professional chef and is excellent.
